In Amsterdam, a residents’ association wanted to organise parking in a smarter and fairer way. Residents were allowed to register multiple licence plates but only grant access to one vehicle at a time — a practical way to prevent double use. The car park is located in an area surrounded by paid parking, making control essential.
With no intercom or reception available, there was a clear need for an accessible digital solution for occasional visitors. At the same time, residents wanted to manage their own licence plates without the complexity of a reservation system. Flexibility also had to be preserved, for example when a family member visits while the resident’s own vehicle is away.
The challenge: how to ensure visitor access that is simple, fair and user friendly, without physical cards or manual actions?
The chosen solution combines Park-R Pro with the Park-R+ Payments add-on. Park-R Pro is essential here as it enables real time counting, which is crucial to ensure only one vehicle per household is on site at any time. These smart counts automatically prevent multiple vehicles from entering simultaneously.
Residents manage their licence plates themselves through the online management portal. They cannot make reservations but can update licence plates. If no vehicle from their household is currently inside, the barrier opens automatically.
Visitors use a fully digital system. On entry, they scan a QR code at the gate, which displays the parking terms. Once accepted, the barrier opens. On exit, another QR code is scanned and payment is made via iDEAL, calculated by length of stay. The entire process runs without a terminal, app or staff involvement.
With Park-R Pro, the residents’ association now has full visibility of who enters and when, without residents or visitors needing cards, tags or reception staff. Visitors pay a fair fee for their parking time, while residents experience less pressure on their spaces.
The solution is scalable, easy to use and fully managed online. For a complex with limited visitor numbers, it provides an ideal form of digital access control and fair parking.
